چکیده

Single conical nanopores in polymer foils are fabricated by means of the ion track etching technique. They are chemically modified so that they selectively react with certain molecules to be analyzed. This specific reaction is electrochemically monitored by measuring the electrolyte current flowing through the nanopores in an electrochemical cell. This current is dependent on the presence and concentration of the molecule to be analysed. Thus, a both sensitive and selective molecular sensor is available. The paper describes the fabrication of the nanopores and their use as sensors. As an example, the sensing of hydrogen peroxide is shown. The polymer nanopores are the base of the project iNAPO. Its goal is the combination of the polymer-based nanopores with biological protein-based nanopores and their implementation into a micro-device in order to create a new type of sensing tool for analytical or medical applications, e.g. such as environmental water analysis and diagnostics of diseases.

The utility of stochastic single-molecule detection using protein nanopores has found widespread application in bioanalytical sensing as a result of the inherent signal amplification of the resistive pulse method. Integration of protein nanopores with high-resolution scanning ion conductance microscopy (SICM) extends the utility of SICM by enabling selective chemical imaging of specific target ...

Using charge to control the functional properties of self-assembled nanopores in membranes.

Control of function in self-assembled molecular structures is a major challenge in supramolecular chemistry. [ 1–4 ] Ion channels, for instance, are pore-forming nanostructures typically comprising multiple molecular subunits assembled via noncovalent interactions. [ 5 ] These pores function by facilitating a fl ux of ions across the hydrophobic barrier of a lipid bilayer. For over a decade, ma...

Nanopores with controlled profiles in track-etched membranes

The production of the track-etched membranes is well known in membrane science. Latent ion tracks are the result of the passage of swift ions through solid matter, they can be etched selectively in many materials. As a result, conical, cylindrical or other shape channels can be obtained. The increasing interest in polymer track-etched membranes with nano-channels is connected with the developme...

A hydrophobic entrance enhances ion current rectification and induces dewetting in asymmetric nanopores.

Hydrophobic interactions and local dewetting of hydrophobic cavities have been identified as a key mechanism for ionic gating in biological voltage-gated channels in a cell membrane. Hydrophobic interactions are responsible for rectification of the channels, i.e. the ability to transport ions more efficiently in one direction compared to the other. We designed single polymer nanopores with a hy...

Ultrashort single-walled carbon nanotubes in a lipid bilayer as a new nanopore sensor

An important issue in nanopore sensing is to construct stable and versatile sensors that can discriminate analytes with minute differences. Here we report a means of creating nanopores that comprise ultrashort single-walled carbon nanotubes inserted into a lipid bilayer. We investigate the ion transport and DNA translocation through single-walled carbon nanotube nanopores and find that our resu...
